R. John Symonds, Jr., died tragically Sunday, August 20, 2006, from injuries as a result of a sky diving accident near Tomahawk.
He was born in Sturgis SD, the son of Richard Sr. and Patricia Lehnert. John grew up in Belle Fourche where he graduated from high school in 1982. Following high school, John served in the National Guard, stationed in Missouri and New Jersey. He later served with the reserves in Belle Fourche.
In 1991 John received his law degree from Marquette university and has been an attorney at Nash Podvin Attorneys at Law since graduation.
During his college years, John worked summers in Cordova Alaska, as a fishing guide. This is also when he developed a passion for sky diving, and became a team member that competed against nationally recognized teams.
Other passions of his were hot air balloons and people, specifically children. To share his passions with the community, John founded the Wisconsin Rapids Balloon Rally in 2001, a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network. The Balloon Rally has since become an annual event attend by thousands of people. John was also active in Boy Scouts and the Boys & Girls Club.
John will be remembered for loving life and people. |
